Ross Gehrig has taken on the challenge of guiding the fifth winemaking generation of Gehrigs to craft some fine wines. Armed with a wine science degree and multiple oversea vintage placements in France, Israel, practical winemaking here and abroad has re-confirmed the old school principle of “the wine’s made in the vineyard”. The obsession starts deep in the vineyard rows, growing some tasty grapes…. From there, the winemaking is all about conserving those rich fruit flavours, to craft a full flavoured wine that is true to varietal style, being mindful of the classic aspects of the wine, but not afraid to try something crazy to “improve the breed” and produce a cracker of a wine….! Combining the best of current day science, with old school winemaking tricks help guide some fine fruit into fine wines; hopefully appleasing the past generation, inspire the future generations and creating some great wines for all to be amazed by.
