Our Story

Where Our Story Begins

Generations in the Glass

Fifth-generation winemaker Ross Gehrig is proudly guiding the next chapter of John Gehrig Wines.

With a wine science degree and vintage experience across France, Israel and Australia, Ross blends modern knowledge with old-school instincts. But one belief always comes first: great wine is made in the vineyard.

Guided by history, grown for today.

A Family Legacy in the Vines

At the helm is Ross Gehrig, a fifth-generation winemaker with an unwavering focus on vineyard quality. His philosophy is simple: great wine starts with great grapes. Every decision, from pruning to picking, is made with the end glass in mind.

Ross’ father, John, established the Oxley vineyard and winery on the banks of the King River in 1976. Since then, Ross has taken on the challenge of guiding the next generation of Gehrigs, continuing the family tradition while crafting wines of distinction that honour the past and look confidently to the future.

In 2011, the pull of family roots proved irresistible. Ross and his wife Meghan expanded the business to Rutherglen, returning to John’s birthplace with the establishment of a second vineyard and cellar door site in Gooramadda, east of Rutherglen.

More Than a Winery

John Gehrig Wines is, and always has been, a family affair. From the vineyard to the cellar door, every bottle tells a story of place, people, and perseverance. We’d love to welcome you in, pour you a glass, and share a little of that story with you.
