Visiting John Gehrig Wines is about more than tasting wine. It’s about slowing down, enjoying the setting, and getting a genuine feel for the people and the places behind each bottle.
With vineyard and cellar door locations in both Oxley on the King River and Gooramadda near Rutherglen, you’re invited to experience two sides of the Gehrig story, each with its own sense of place, history, and character.
Whether just popping in for a tasting or in for a lazy afternoon, you’ll be met with friendly faces, thoughtful wines, and a relaxed country welcome.

King Valley Cellar Door
Set among the vines on the edge of the King River, Oxley is where the modern John Gehrig Wines story began.
Established by John Gehrig in 1976, this site remains the heart of the family’s winemaking operations and a place where generations of knowledge meet hands-on vineyard care. It’s a peaceful, working vineyard setting, ideal for unhurried tastings and conversations about how the wines are made.
Here, you’ll taste a broad selection of our range, from fresh, approachable whites through to structured reds and our much-loved fortified wines, all shaped by careful vineyard management and a strong focus on quality fruit.

A return to family roots
Rutherglen Cellar Door
In 2011, Ross Gehrig and his wife Meghan returned to John’s birthplace with the establishment of our Gooramadda vineyard and cellar door, just east of Rutherglen.
This site reflects both history and evolution. It’s a place where traditional Rutherglen styles sit comfortably alongside newer expressions, including wines carrying the RG label, which represent Ross’s personal take on variety, site, and season.
The Rutherglen cellar door offers a welcoming, down-to-earth tasting experience, ideal for visitors exploring the region or those keen to dig a little deeper into fortified wines and the heritage of Victorian viticulture.

Our tastings are designed to be relaxed and informative, guided by people who know the wines well and are happy to tailor the experience to your interests.
Whether you’re new to the region or already familiar with Rutherglen and King Valley styles, we’ll help you navigate the range, share a few stories along the way, and make sure you leave with a better understanding of what makes John Gehrig Wines unique.
Group bookings and special experiences may be available by arrangement. If you’re planning a visit with a larger group, we recommend getting in touch ahead of time.

Popped in on a whim for a quick tasting and was genuinely impressed, especially by the Rieslings. Super tasty across the range. We picked up an aged Riesling that leaned a little sweeter, which I loved, and they even threw in a free bottle with our purchase. Really friendly service and a more warehouse-style setup, nothing fancy, just focused on the wine.
